Both Wybers’ boys and girls reached the county championships this year due to qualifying from our local competition!

First up was the boys who had a tricky first match against Martongate, with Freddie grabbing a late goal to ensure a 1-0 victory! The next game was against Westfield, who were just to strong for Wybers with them ending up on the wrong side of a 4-0 scoreline.

However, the boys didn’t drop their heads as they knew if they won their last game against Ings they would qualify for the semi-finals as best runner up! After a prolonged period of dominance Freddie and Bo put Wybers two up and in the driving seat! Ings grabbed a goal back but it wasn’t enough to keep the lads out of the semis!

Wybers Boys Football Team

In the semi-finals they faced a very strong North Ferriby team, Wybers battled hard and took the game to extra time with some valiant defending! Unfortunately North Ferriby grabbed a scrappy last minute goal to take them to the final and to send Wybers to the bronze medal match!

Unexpectedly Wybers faced Westfield in the 3rd/4th playoff, eager to not let the game be a repeat of their group match Wybers played out of their skins! After full time and extra time, the deadlock couldn’t be broken, sending the game to a penalty shoot out!

After players on both teams had missed their penalties, it was all up to Bo! Who cooly slotted his penalty past the keeper to earn Wybers’ redemption against Westfield and third place in the tournament!

After the boys, it was the girls turn! In a very hard group- the girls had Willoughby Carr Lane first. After an intense game, Willoughby Carr Lane came away with a 2-0 win. Like the boys, the Wybers’ heads didn’t drop as they faced Thanet next. Thanks to some clinical from Ella and an impressive display from Wybers defence, the girls won the game 2-0!

The last game was against Eastfield – a winner takes all, with the victors going to the semi finals! Unfortunately, Eastfield grabbed an early goal and managed to hold on until the final whistle!

Unfortunately, the girl’s finished third in their group but played some amazing performances especially the newly appointed captain Shoshoni!
