Art

At Wybers Wood Academy, we strive to be as inspiring, creative and unique as possible. These 3 themes deeply underpin our Art lessons, and it is a subject that engages, inspires and challenges all pupils. It equips them with the knowledge and skills to imitate, adapt and create their own works of art.

Throughout each child’s artistic journey at Wybers Wood, they learn a variety of disciplines; drawing, painting, sculpting, textiles and printmaking. Each of these are built upon year on year through the skills and materials that are used so by the end of their time with us, they have a well rounded and skilful art education.

Progression is a key focus within our Art Curriculum and each year we consider the key skills that have already been taught and we build on these to enhance our skill sets. We look at a range of influential artists and designers. This develops pupils’ knowledge and skills.

Our Art Journey begins in Early Years. In Early Years, children are given the freedom to collage and junk model with a variety of materials. They are taught colour mixing and different painting techniques which they apply to their own creations. From Year 1 to Year 6 children are then given sketchbooks so they can really take pride in their artwork. These document their art journeys throughout the school.

We take great pride in our artwork at Wybers and are currently working towards an Arts Mark Award. There are going to be lots of Arty projects coming up, so keep your eyes peeled and please let us know if you would like to be involved in any way!
