PE

Wybers Wood Academy

At Wybers Wood Academy, we deliver a rich and varied curriculum that inspires all children to succeed. We increase our pupils’ participation in sports to enable them to excel in competitive sports and other physically demanding activities.  Wybers Wood recognize that exercise has a positive influence on academic achievement, emotional stability and interaction with others. It boosts confidence, improves health, increases concentration and reduces stress; we give our children the skills they need to enable them to be physically active for a lifetime. All of this constitutes to our vision of what PE looks like at Wybers Wood Academy.

PE Vision

At Wybers Wood Academy, we believe all children should be exposed to an excellent range and quality of PE provision. Wybers Wood recognize that exercise has a positive influence on academic achievement, emotional stability and social interaction with others. We know it boosts our pupil’s confidence, improves their health, increases their concentration and reduces stress. With that in mind, we are a vision that enables all children to become involved in a breadth of experiences through three categories: Physical Activity, School Sports, and Physical Education throughout their time at Wybers Wood.

High quality PE and school sport produces young people with the skills, understanding, desire and commitment to continue to improve and achieve in a range of PE, sport and health-enhancing physical activities in line with their abilities’ (DCMS Learning through PE & Sport).

Children leave our school with a strong awareness to the benefits of regular Physical Activity in their lives. School Sport plays a tremendously popular role in helping to shape our children for their futures. We see participation in school sport as a fantastic way to educate our children to exposures that they will face throughout their lives. Our children know that they will face competition during their lifetime, they will not always win, they will have to show courage, teamwork, and respect in times when it would be easy not to; Yet, our children leave this school with these required skills to overcome those obstacles. Lastly, Physical Education is at the forefront of our vision. Two hours of Physical Education each academic week ensure that our children are consuming a wide variety of skills and techniques that aid them in future life. A carefully constructed and moulded curriculum, annotated to fit the ethos of our school, allows our children to experience a wide range of sports and activities that relate and appeal to them – our children drive our curriculum.

Developing pupil’s personal qualities through PE can affect their attitudes towards school and learning. When PE and School sport provision is of the highest quality, all pupils will, to the best of their abilities, develop and demonstrate the following personal qualities:

  • A strong desire to learn & make progress;
  • High levels of attendance and involvement in PE and School sport;
  • High levels of commitment to PE and School sport;
  • Good levels of positive behaviour such as politeness, fair play and helpfulness; and
  • High levels of enjoyment and enthusiasm and a strong desire to get involved.’
